Last September I arrived at the Muskokan Resort Club to photograph Trevor and his boys getting ready for his big day! It was a beautiful setting for the young man about to marry his love, Alicja. I was also rather impressed with his choice of attire for both himself and the boys; they looked so sharp and had all the small touches: vests, pocket watches, colourful lily boutonnieres, matching leather shoes…
Everyone in the wedding party was young and radient. There were so many laughs and jokes that day. It was so easy to relate and keep up with their humour!
The limo arrived on time to bring the boy to the ceremony- and this is the first instance that I had realized there was a little something different about us.
Having the opportunity to second shoot for someone else is fantastic, especially the incredibly talented Scott Turbull! You’re allowed to go outside of the safe zone and collect the artsy image when the main Photographer needs to collect the ‘safe’ one (think exchanging rings or first kiss). However, you often don’t know all of the details until late in the game. Such as there ceremony being held at the Kingdom Hall in Bracebridge.
I think the only time I had encountered a person from Jehovah’s Witness was on my front porch in downtown Toronto. Although, there was a Kingdom Hall next to the bus stop I used for years as I went back and forth to High School… But other than those experiences, I had never the opportunity to have a normal conversation with anyone of that faith; so in a way, it was refreshing to see just how similar they were to myself. Now I don’t claim to know anything about this religion, faith, or belief system, but let me tell you- I had a hell of a time with this awesome group!
After the ceremony, we took some incredible shots of the party in a few choice parts of Muskoka; a farm, a blooming backyard, and the gorgeous Windemere House in Lake Rosseau. It was a truly beautiful day!
